Davis named officer of year

Colt Davis recently was named the Mukilteo Police Department’s officer of the year for 2014. The award is voted on by the department’s police officers.

Davis, 33, has been with the department since April 2007. He is the department’s crime prevention officer and spokesman.

Davis was recognized for his work in improving community-minded programs and adding new ones, interim police Cmdr. Cheol Kang said. One example is Paws on Patrol, “which has been a hit for dog owners,” Kang said. Davis also helps organize Block Watch programs.

“When you have someone who has that type of personal investment in running the programs, it definitely shows,” Kang said. “That’s the type of model officer we want out there to represent our agency and our values.”

Students taking donations for soldiers: Glacier Peak High School students are accepting cash donations to help pay for their Adopt a Soldier project. The money goes toward printing costs for cards for the soldiers and postage and supplies to send holiday cards and packages overseas. They’ll be taking donations during Saturday’s football game against Ballard. The game is at 7 p.m. at Snohomish High School’s Veterans Memorial Field.
